Inspired by Spoonflower’s State Fair pattern competition this week, I created this new pattern called Blue Ribbon. Having grown up in Canada, the idea of state fairs have always fascinated me greatly as there aren’t really the same type of events up here. One of the things I’ve always been in awe of is are the amazing competitions for all manner of foods, produce, and livestock! Especially the food 🙂 Pies, jellies, barbecue, oh my! I took my inspiration from all the great ribbon winners that placed for their delicious offerings at the fair!
It’s fun to experiment with geometrics! “Angles” is a new pattern I have in my Spoonflower shop which comes in two colorways – Pink and Green. I just got back a swatch in the new Sports Lycra being offered and it would be perfect for athletic wear! I think some new leggings are in my near future 🙂
I’ve just completed a new map project, The Coast of British Columbia that I’m excited to share with you! I love the liveliness that the interplay between land and water express, and had a lot of fun creating this illustrated piece. The title is also all hand-lettered, the writing style is something I’ve been playing with recently 🙂
I’ve been working on some sewing projects using my fabric designs recently and am so excited to share images from a photoshoot by the wonderful Teri G.! You can check out her fabulous portfolio here. I basically had the cutest model ever, wouldn’t you agree?
My wonderful model is wearing a long-sleeved organic cotton jersey tee in my “Space Forest” fabric. I created the tee with indie sewing pattern company Made by Rae’s “Flashback Skinny Tee” pattern. It was my first time sewing with a Made by Rae pattern and I would definitely recommend this one – easy to use and totally adorable 🙂 This was such a fun project, and I love getting to see my designs being worn in real life! ❤
Over the past few months I’ve been creating tons of new work for Surtex (which took place two weekends ago), but I haven’t been able to share any of it! I’m excited now to get to share some new designs 🙂 This month I was able to schedule some time for myself to participate in Bootcamp, an online design course run by the fabulous Lilla Rogers! The assignment brief was to create darkly colored crustaceans designed to be used on a set of plates. I had a ton of fun doing this, making my characters a bit more friendly looking than in real life, and challenging myself to not outline any of the artwork so I could really embrace a darker set of colors to use on them. I introduce to you my collection “Scuttle” ! Everyone’s interpretations of the theme and plate collection are phenomenal, I definitely recommend checking out the gallery here!
My work will be debuting at Surtex this year where I’ll be represented by Cultivate Art Collective in Booth #222! I hope you’ll stop by our booth to say hello and check out all the new artwork available from the talented Collective members 🙂 Below you’ll find some of the flyers the different Collective members have created (click the images to visit their personal websites): Continue reading →
I’m excited to announce my work will be debuting at Surtex this year where I’ll be represented by Cultivate Art Collective in Booth #222! #Surtex is taking place May 17-19/2015 at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in NYC and is a fabulous trade show where artists from all over the word have new designs available to license and sell to many different markets. I’ve been working very hard on creating a ton of new artwork and this is why I’ve been so quiet on the blogging front over the past few months!
I’ve been more active on my Instagram and Facebook where I’ve revealed a few sneak peeks of some brand new surface patterns that will be available at the show! Below you can find my brand new hand-lettered digital flyers with the sneak peek artwork revealed 🙂 If you are at the show, I hope you’ll stop by Booth #222!
